A Lesson Before Dying Chapter 12 Reflection

Frustrated with having to create a lie to tell Miss Emma, Grant goes to The Rainbow Club to have a drink. There he listens to the men talk about a baseball star by the name Jackie Robinson. With all their talk, he recalls when the town was crazy about the wrestler Joe Louis. He states that when Joe lost the fight with Schmeling the town went into depression and when he won the second one they were happy again.  The more he listened he began to recall the Irishman that visited his university. The Irishman spoke to them about literature. His thoughts then drifted to Jefferson cell.  He goes to visit Vivian to take his mind off everything. He tries to persuade her to leave, but she refused because she feels that it will interfere with her keeping custody of her kids.
