A Lesson Before Dying Chapter 13 Reflection

Readers are introduced to a new character, Eloise Blouie. She comes to get Tante Lou to walk to church. Grant explains that he stopped believing in God when he came back from college and that the only reason she didn’t say anything about it was because he threatened to live somewhere else if she did. Grant stays home to correct papers, however his mind drifts back to the day he went to go see Jefferson. Tante Lou, Miss Emma, and the Reverend was waiting in silence for him to arrive. Tante Lou questions what happened during the visit and Grant lies and tells them that everything went alright. She keeps pressing him to go into details. He tells her the what happened but leaves out all the bad parts. The Reverend then steps in and ask did they talk about God. He goes on saying that he would bring the Bible on their next visit.
